Notes for 11 August 2012
Celebrating culture through photography

On Saturday 11th August 2012, there was a summer outing to the Indian Community Centre, Belfast. The enthusiastic group of 11 were given a very enjoyable and informative talk by Alice, a volunteer at the Centre, and then shown round the Temple. Participants heard about beliefs such as reincarnation and important dates such as the Independence of India celebrated on 15th August.

A vegetarian meal was provided as no meat is allowed in the Centre and then the photographers got down to business in the fascinating and colourful environment. It is hoped to have a competition for photos taken with an Indian theme later in the year. Ards Camera Club would like to extend its thanks to all the volunteers at the Centre for their warm hospitality and making it such an enjoyable day.

This visit received support from the Northern Ireland Community Relations Council which aims to promote a pluralist society characterised by equity, respect for diversity, and recognition of interdependence. The views expressed do not necessarily reflect those of the Community Relations Council.

Notes for August 2012

Dust down your cameras and bring them out in this gorgeous weather. It was fairly cloudy the last few days, perfect for flower, insect and any type of macro photography. The clouds give diffused light, so if you are photographing still life, this gives good even lighting and natural daylight gives truer colours. Hope to see some of your photos in September. Ards Camera Club have a new venture for a Wednesday, our informal meeting night. In the meantime, keep in mind that the Annual Exhibition will be in September at the Town hall. Your support will be very welcome. Announcements will be coming soon.

The Club needs your help to organise and frame the exhibition entries. The meeting for this is Monday 13th August 2012. Please come along and give a hand. It will be a good night's craic.

Inter-club round 1 - 'Open'

The first round of the club competitions were held on Friday 16th September. This year we are not having a “judge” as such but instead inviting someone to critique the entry of Monochrome and Colour prints and PDIs (Projected Digital Images). This will give the members guidance to enable them to hopefully select the best prints and PDIs on display.

We welcomed Brian McKenna from Merville Newtownabbey Photographic Club to partake of his knowledge and critique the competition entries. After Brian had commented on each section it was the members turn to examine the entry and on the voting slips provided, mark their preference for First, Second and Third place. The results were then collated and the results of the club competition are as follows:
